Lesson 2: Let's Learn Some Vocabulary

We are heading into lesson 2 of our lesson plan! Thanks for joining me so far!

For lesson 2 you can focus mostly on vocabulary in order to achieve a base that the kids can develop further over the next few classes. For this, and as mentioned in the previous post, you would have had to ask to your students to bring a variety of sports and leisure activity pictures.

The first step will be to share the pictures that the students have brought with the rest of their class, and to write all the vocabulary associated with the pictures on the board.

At this stage, organise the classroom into groups of 3 to 4 students per group.  The students will then work on creating their own picture dictionaries. For this, they will need large cardboard paper, pencils, markers, glue, scissors, etcetera. The kids will have to divide their picture dictionaries into 3 parts. One part will be for vocabulary about sports, another for vocabulary about leisure activities, and the final part will be for building sentences using the words above.

This will take most of the class, but make sure you leave about 15 minutes at the end for each group to present their work to the rest of the class.

The picture dictionaries can subsequently be hung on the classroom walls so that the students can view and review them in the future.

Please see an example of how one such picture dictionary could look, below.
